Endoscopic DCR in Rajkot, Tear Duct Surgery (No External Scar)

If your eye keeps watering for no apparent reason, the problem is rarely the eye itself, it is usually a blocked tear-drainage pathway from the eye into the nose. Endoscopic DCR opens that pathway from inside the nose, with no scar on the face.

Tears are made constantly. They drain through tiny holes in the inner corner of each eye, into a sac, then down a small tube into the nose. If that tube blocks, most often in middle-aged women, sometimes after infection or trauma, tears overflow onto the cheek and a recurring sticky discharge develops.

The classical surgery for this used to be open DCR, with a small cut on the side of the nose. We do the modern endoscopic version. The surgeon works through the nostril with a small camera, opens a new drainage path directly into the nose, and you go home the same day with absolutely nothing on your face.

Diagnosis & procedure

What we look for, and what we do.

A clear, no-jargon walk-through of the symptoms that lead to surgery, and the exact steps inside the operating theatre.

When it helps

Symptoms that point to a blocked tear duct

DCR helps when watering and discharge are coming from drainage failure, not eye disease itself:

  • Constant watering of one eye, even indoors
  • Sticky white or yellow discharge in the inner corner
  • Repeated infections of the tear sac (dacryocystitis)
  • Painful swelling at the inner corner of the eye
  • An ophthalmologist has diagnosed nasolacrimal duct obstruction
  • Failed syringing or probing in the past
The procedure

How endoscopic DCR works

The whole procedure happens through one nostril using a 4mm endoscope. Nothing on the face.

  1. Pre-op: Eye exam, syringing test, CT-DCG if needed, anaesthesia clearance.
  2. Surgery (45-60 min): Endoscope into the nose, a small bone window made over the tear sac, sac opened directly into the nasal cavity.
  3. Stenting: A soft silicone tube is placed temporarily to keep the new path open.
  4. Discharge: Same day. Tube is gently removed in OPD after 6-8 weeks.
